When You're Walking, You're Always on One Foot
Years ago, Bernie May (founder of Seed Company) gave me a picture of what balance actually looks like in leadership. It wasn't what I expected. It's been on my mind lately as I think about work, family, and the rhythm of forward motion.

"When you're walking, you're always on one foot."
I recently came across that quote in a note from a call I had years ago with my mentor Bernie May, Founder of Seed Company and former Director at Wycliffe Bible Translator.
He went on:
"The moment you start moving, you're a little off balance. But like a child learning to walk, you get better at it by making mistakes and practicing. Sometimes you learn by leaning too far or moving too fast. But eventually you find the rhythm."
Balance Is an Illusion
Great reminder that my idea of "balance" is often an illusion.
Work and family. Agency and ministry. Hustle and rest.
We have to step into new demands every day. So we'll never really be in perfect balance.
Forward Motion With Constant Correction
Life requires forward motion with constant correction.
So maybe the anxiety we feel about not having it figured out is just proof we're moving?
